Simple tips: Bathroom cabinet

Simple tips are fast organizing tricks that can have a big impact on your space.

Here’s a simple tip for an overstuffed bathroom cabinet: Check the dates on your over-the-counter drugs.

It’s a good idea to check annually to make sure expired medicines as well as unwanted prescriptions are not filling up your space when you don’t need them.

Unwanted medications should be discarded, but please consider disposing of them properly to protect the water we drink. There are three ways to do this:

a. Buy a pre-stamped, pre-addressed envelope that will let you mail them to a facility that disposes of drugs safely. To find a nearest place to buy a medication disposal mailer, check with Sharps Compliance, Inc.

b. U.S. Food and Drug Administration has a website explaining how to dispose of drugs yourself using such thing as ground coffee to disperse the more dangerous chemicals. For more information.

c. Some local police stations have a drop-box for unwanted medicine. Call your town hall or police station — not 911– to see if this option is available in your area.

Do you have any quick strategies for keeping a bathroom cabinet organized?

  1. Awesome post Elesheva! Thanks so much for the continued tips! I’m wondering, about empty prescription bottles with personal address and medical info on it? I know there are lots of uses for them, but do you have a suggestion for disposal?
    I hope all is well!

    • R- thank you! Some bottles are recyclable and it’s always a good idea to black out personal information before recycling. Remove the sticky paper from the bottle if possible. I’ve seen such bottles reused in other ways as well, such as to hold beads, keeping little pieces together from a board game, vitamins for traveling and other ideas… I’d love to hear from my readers what they’ve used empty prescription bottles for.
