I worked with Dalia* who was moving into another unit after a big renovation. The new kitchen space was set up differently from the old one. She was asking for help to make the new space flow. We looked at what she currently has on her counter or nearby and asked which appliances are most frequently used. We used Post-Its to mark where to store commonly used items: plates, serving bowls, mugs/water glasses etc. I checked to see if she and her husband liked the set-up or wanted to swap certain categories. Things to consider are where the dishwasher is located, to make putting away dishes easy and efficient, placing mugs close to where the coffee machine lives for quick access especially in the morning. Water glasses should be close to the faucet or refrigerator for water. Once all that is laid out, then we look at counter space for food prepping. Some people want no clutter on the counter which means all active appliances have to have a home somewhere for easy access. Less frequently used appliances can be stored further away or higher up. Others have set a routine of appliances they need out all the time.
Sometimes as much as a newly renovated kitchen looks beautiful, it’s not always organized with clients’ daily needs. Having a professional organizer can help make kitchen flow work for you.
