Minimizing food waste before moving

I’ve had clients ask about where to donate frozen food as they were moving out of state. Most food banks will not take frozen food from homes for food safety reasons which is understandable. More often than not, the food ends up in trash. If you’re planning on moving, see if you can give frozen items to your neighbors and friends, ideally not right before the move as people moving usually have too many to-dos list to deal with. Have a pick-up party for those to take what they want home. Anything expired, obviously, toss or compost.

Alternatively, once you know when the move is happening, reduce food shopping and use up what’s already in the freezer/fridge/pantry.

What’s the best trick you’ve done to help reduce food waste before moving?
