I recently went with a friend to see a foreign film during a foreign film festival week. After the movie ended, the festival film organization was passing out free posters of its brand to all patrons. It was great political statement poster. Naturally I didn’t take it. My friend did and she asked me why I didn’t take one. I replied, what was I going to do with it?
It wasn’t a poster I wanted to hang up in my home or frame.
She paused for a minute to think about what she was going to do with her poster. Is there a home for it on a wall or is it going to collect dust somewhere? Just because something is free, doesn’t mean you have to take it home. When something is meaningful to you, then take it and make a home for it. My friend left the poster behind and went home lighter.
