Closet make over with Elfa

Eliora had a beautiful walk-in closet, but its minimal shelf and rod setup left the space underutilized. She decided to make it over with Elfa shelving from the Container Store. To make sure she got the perfect design for her lifestyle, she asked me to help figure out what her dream closet should look like.

We looked over Eliora’s wardrobe and talked about her priorities. She had a prized shoe collection that she wanted to keep visible and easy to access. She was sick of having wasted space above the closet’s hanging rods, and wanted her floor clear instead of stacked with off-season items.

Picture of walk-in closet in chaos and underutilized with shoe boxes piled up on a single shelf above the rod. Purses, shoes and items on the floor. Stand alone tall shoe rack is shown piled over with shoes and clothes.

I measured the entire space, and we both went to the Container Store to work with an Elfa closet consultant. Since we had already talked through Eliora’s wants and needs, we had a clear vision to share with the consultant. Eliora got a shelving plan she liked, and scheduled the installation folks to come that same week.

After the shelves were installed, I put everything back, sorting clothes and shoes by category and season.

After clothes and shoes found its way home. Dresses on the hanging rod on the left side. Pants on the first shelf above the rod and then boxes on other shelves upward. Shoes are on display from floor to ceiling. The floor is completely cleared and free of clutter.

Now Eliora can see everything she owes. Prior to the change, the closet was stuffed and cramped. She had a hard time finding what she needed or seeing what she already had. Now her dream closet is a reality. She enjoys getting dressed every morning, and even putting away laundry has become a breeze!
