Happy summer! Ahhhh… June, July and August usually means weddings, which means gifts. Presents give guests an opportunity to help make a home for the two people together. They can also be overwhelming for the couple getting married. I would love to hear from my clients and readers on their best clutter-free suggestions for wedding preparation and wedding gifts. Something you personally have received yourself, witnessed family/friends get which you thought was brilliant, or gave to brides/grooms – write in and tell all.

I have always found gifts-of-experience to be most appreciated by couples who are clutter-conscious. A dear friend cherished a family member’s thoughtful gift of an annual membership to her favorite art museum; another couple was thrilled by the surprise of a season subscription to the symphony. A weekend get-away, a spa package to de-stress after the wedding, or a collection of gift certificates to 12 different restaurants to celebrate each month of a couple’s first year of marriage can also be a thoughtful gift for a couple who has limited space. These are gifts that take up no space, but they can create many wonderful memories for a couple.
For my daughter wedding, she created a website, where instead of the usual link to the wedding registry gifts, she wrote a funny story about their car getting really moody and uncooperative, and asked for all the resources people were going to spend to be directed into a new car fund. The new- weds almost got enough money to get a new car – which they did and their monthly payments are very small, they are very happy and clutter-free. Most people brought little toy cars with the checks inside.
