Unwanted formal dress = prom dress opportunity

Last year around this time, I wrote a blog about donating unwanted formal dresses to high-school girls for prom. If you have a bridesmaid’s dress, formal gown or cocktail dress that you have no desire to wear again, consider making a teen’s dreams come true by donating it to a young woman who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a new dress.

If you missed the opportunity to donate last year or have friends inquiring what to do with such dresses, you’ll be happy to know that organizations across the USA have been accepting formal dresses since February 1st.

To find out more, visit Donate My Dress.

This link will tell you where your nearest drop-off place is. Check your local site for requirements before donating, as organization policies vary. The bottom-line basics are:

  • Dresses can be any size, but must be in good shape and only “gently worn”
  • Remember that these dresses are for high-school teens. Dresses should be no more than three or four years old, so that they are still trendy and in style
  • Dresses with broken zippers, rips, holes, tears or permanent stains will not be accepted

This is a wonderful way to make room for current clothing and make high-school juniors and seniors happy to have a dress for prom.

The last day to drop off a dress is April 15th.
