To clean or to not clean (before I come over)?

When my recent client Amy* called me to come in, I told her not to clean up before I arrived. A number of my friends have shared their childhood memories of their parents always telling them to clean their rooms before a cleaning person came over. I had that same childhood memory. And I know how usual it is to clean when visitors are expected!  But in this case, I needed to know what Amy was struggling with as she tried to stay organized, and I wanted to identify the natural strengths that would help her keep the mess at bay after we went through the organizing process. Seeing her space in its normal state was a quick way to get the most realistic picture of Amy’s daily routine and organizing talents and challenges.

I can help with a wide range of organizing challenges, but knowing your style helps me find a way to make your habits work for you, rather than against you.
