Like most people, I make a habit of recycling plastics (the ones that have numbers 1-7 in a triangle on the bottom) and papers whenever I can. My city’s recycling truck doesn’t pick up some items and I knew my town had a recycling center and vaguely where it was located. Since I was never in the area, I never had the opportunity to go check it out until recently. I had all these old electronics that no longer worked and other hazardous items the recycling truck would not take. Plus I am in the process of moving, so the motivation to get boxful of items out of the apartment helps!
At my town’s recycling center, people drove up to drop off flattened boxes (they must have moved as well) and other items the city’s recycling truck won’t pick up. It’s a wonder, taking in batteries, electronics, books, moving boxes, low-energy light bulbs and more. I am eager to check it out again so I’ll be able to tell my clients what the center can take, instead of advising a traditional toss. It can work the other way, too: I was lucky enough to find clean, unused moving boxes there, thus saving me the money and time of buying boxes to start packing my goods for the move.
